A chill is in the air, but most brides and bridesmaids will still be wearing sleeveless or strapless dresses all through the fall and winter. A pretty cover up is the perfect way to make a dress without sleeves feel more warm and cozy, and it also can enhance the style of your wedding dress. These are some beautiful options for jackets, shrugs, capelets, and other cover ups to wear for fall and winter weddings.

Let’s not forget the bridesmaids – vintage fur stoles will keep them feeling warm and stylish. Image credit: Dreamlove Wedding Photography via Heart Love Weddings.
A fur stole or shrug is one of the warmest options for a wedding gown or bridesmaid cover up. They add a welcome touch of glamor to any dress. I love how the bride in the top picture chose long sparkly wedding earrings to wear with her fabulous fur wrap. There are faux fur options available or visit a vintage clothing store to find antique stoles. Or maybe you can borrow a fur from your grandmother’s closet as your “something borrowed”.

Fitted little cardigans are a hot wedding trend for brides and bridesmaids this fall and winter. Image via Trendy Bride.
Cardigans are one of the biggest wedding fashion trends for this fall and winter. Of course it needs to be the right cardigan, meaning one that is fitted and flatters the lines of your wedding dress. A cute little cardigan is a great way to add a pop of color to your bridal ensemble, so feel free to pick a color other than white. We are also seeing a lot of cardigans on bridesmaids, which work well with the whole mis-matched dress and handmade bridesmaid jewelry aesthetic.

Lace is another important trend in bridal fashion these days, and a lace shrug is a beautiful way to add a bit of coverage to a fall wedding gown. The great thing about a lace jacket is that it can be worn over many different types of bridal gowns. Layer it over a simple satin gown as shown above, choose a lace bolero to match a lace dress, or slip one on over a floaty tulle ballgown. You can wear a long sleeve lace jacket for more warmth or to create a more formal look. By the way, if your ceremony site requires that your arms are covered, you can have a lace jacket lined to make it solid. Then it can easily be removed for the reception if you prefer not to wear long sleeves for the entire wedding.

Some cover ups are so fabulous that it might be worth having a winter wedding just to wear them! I love this ultra glamorous feathery capelet by Monique Lhuillier. It looks absolutely stunning with the bride’s beautiful gown, birdcage veil, and pearl earrings. (And doesn’t her groom look debonair, by the way?) When you can wear something this beautiful to keep the chill off your shoulders, a fall or winter wedding definitely seems like a good idea!
