Napa Valley: Couples who adore excellent food and equally outstanding wine will love autumn in California’s Napa Valley. It is harvest time, and a season of celebration full of wine tastings, events, and other delightful activities. Spend some time touring the different vineyards and visiting world class restaurants like The French Laundry (just book your dinner reservation right now!). For a different perspective, hop in a hot air balloon to float above the beautiful vineyards. How utterly romantic!

Fall Cruises: Autumn can be a great time to take a honeymoon cruise. Avoid the Caribbean (hurricane season), and head north. Fall is the perfect time to take a tour on the rivers or up to Canada to see the autumn leaves from the water. Not only are New England and Canada great destinations, but you can take autumn cruises in places like the Illinois River or the Columbia and Snake Rivers in the Northwest. The best thing about a cruise is that you only have to unpack your clothes, jewelry, and toiletries once, leaving more time to enjoy the view and each other.

Aruba: If you are a believer that honeymoons should take place on gorgeous sunny beaches, take a look at Aruba. While many American beaches are threatened by hurricane season in the autumn, you will have no such worries on Aruba, which is off the coast of Venezuela. The climate is warm year round and not as humid as many tropical islands. What should you pack? Your bikini, a cute dress and some handmade silver jewelry for dinners out, and your passports. The best thing about a beach honeymoon is that you need very little besides each other.

New England: Another romantic destination for a fall honeymoon is New England, particularly Vermont. Late September to mid-October is prime fall foliage season (it peaks earlier in the mountains and later in the valleys). Early autumn boasts the most beautiful weather in Vermont: blue skies, crisp air, and evenings that are cool enough to cozy up by a fireplace. Besides admiring the beauty of nature, there are plenty of things you can do during the day. Go for a hike, explore the shops, and ride a gondola to the top of a mountain for a dinner with a spectacular view. By night, snuggle in front of a fireplace at a romantic country inn. New England is a wonderful spot for a low-key romantic honeymoon.
