Delightful Ruffled Wedding Details

Who’s in the mood for ruffles? Tiers of flirty ruffles cascading around the tiers of wedding cakes has been one of the best wedding trends for 2012, as far as I am concerned. The great news is that the ruffle trend is only picking up steam; from cakes it has moved to wedding dresses and even the wedding flowers. Check out these delightful wedding details.

Your wedding dress is a fantastic place to add some ruffles to your day. One of the prettiest necklines I have seen in recent years is the ruffle halter, as seen in the Wtoo dress above. I love it equally well for bridesmaids or brides. It takes a gown with classic lines and makes it something really memorable. Plus I love how it brings the focus to the bride’s face. Accent this stunning neckline with a pair of bold crystal or pearl drop earrings. If you want to go “all in” on the ruffle trend, opt for a ruffle bedecked gown such as this one by St. Pucchi. The entire skirt is absolutely covered in ruffles, ribbons, and flounces, for a feminine extravaganza. It would be the perfect dress for a modern Southern Belle bride.

If you choose only one ruffled wedding detail, let it be the cake. I can’t get over the incredible delicate beauty of the ruffled wedding cakes. They have a wonderful vintage sensibility, and they truly look too good to eat. A cluster of frosting flowers is the perfect topper for this style of cake. Notice how the cake shown above even has little “pearls” inside some of the flowers – what a sweet little detail (and so pretty if the bride is wearing pearl jewelry for the wedding). Ruffled cakes are typically seen in soft girly colors like ivory, pink, and lilac which complement their ultra-romantic sensibility.

If you are going to have a ruffly wedding, it would be delightful to incorporate some ruffles into your wedding invitations. The top invitations have a stylish ruffled flower design that goes beautifully with the flowers on the ruffled wedding cake and St. Pucchi bridal gown seen anove. Best of all: they are from Michaels, so they are also affordable. Or embrace a real couture look with an actual ruffled ribbon stitched to your wedding invitations. It is easy to imagine the gold ruffle invitation above with the Wtoo wedding dress with its tailored style.

As for the wedding flowers, there are some wonderfully ruffly varieties for bouquets and centerpieces. Frilly pink peonies, old fashioned sweet peas, ruffly carnations, and cabbage roses are all perfect for creating romantic bouquets with ruffles. Of course you can also consider having a ruffled frill around the bouquet or for the bouquet wrap if you wish to play up the theme even more. Vintage milk glass vases or even white hobnail cake stands would be lovely vessels for the centerpieces.

Craving even more ruffles to grace your special day? Dress up the bride’s chair with a sweet little DIY ruffle garland. Or go crazy with ruffled chair covers for the entire reception. There are even fabulous shoes for brides and bridesmaids with flamboyant ruffles on them. It is hard to imagine a more fun and flirty wedding theme than ruffles.
