Pretty Lantern Wedding Decorations

The soft details like flowers and linens are an important part of your wedding decor, but don’t overlook how much props and other focal items can add to your wedding style. I adore what can be done with lanterns for weddings. Whether they are the focal point of the centerpiece, used to light paths, or hung to cast a romantic glow over everything, lanterns always add a beautiful ambiance to a wedding.

A tall whitewashed lantern flanked by simple bouquets of elegant tulips makes a lovely centerpiece for an outdoor wedding. The lantern is not only pretty, but also very practical, as it will protect the flame of the candle from the wind. This would be a wonderful centerpiece for a garden or tent afternoon reception. The clean lines make me think of a bride wearing a classic silk strapless gown with a pearl bridal necklace.

Add an exotic flair to your wedding with intricately patterned Moroccan lanterns. They look stunning for an evening wedding, indoors or out. I love how the lantern shown above is surrounded by a lush wreath of flowers. Play up the Moroccan flavor of the pierced lantern by using spicy colors like russet, orange, and saffron. Hints of magenta would be a great accent.

Another great use for lanterns at a wedding is to illuminate the aisle. They can be placed beside chairs or pews as seen in the image above. Another idea is to hang the lanterns, either from the sides of the chairs or from shepherd’s hooks. A nice thing about lanterns is the great variety of style. These pretty white ones have a charming scroll design on the glass, and there are also lanterns which are rustic, Victorian, Craftsman-style, Gothic, or pretty much any style you could ever want.

Lanterns instead of bouquets? Absolutely heavenly! Think about what a romantic processional it would make to have your bridesmaids carrying flickering lanterns. And look at the beautiful glass on these particular lanterns. Crystal wedding jewelry would really play up the iridescence of the glass. Just wonderful.

Lanterns can even be given out as wedding favors. These miniature lanterns are the best of both worlds: elegant favors and extra decorations for the reception tables. You can’t go wrong with a wedding favor that does so much!
