Are you going to a wedding this summer? Or maybe a whole bunch of weddings? Then you are probably wondering what you can wear that is summery, pretty, and fancy enough for a special occasion. Find out what to wear to an outdoor summer wedding that will look great and feel good as well.

Personally I always think dresses are great to wear to weddings. They automatically feel more dressed up than a skirt or pants, and they are very appropriate for the special occasion that weddings always are. Besides, on a hot summer day, nothing feels more comfortable than a breezy dress. If the day promises to be hot and sticky, a cotton dress will feel better than silk or a polyester one. Plus, summer is your chance to wear fun fabrics like seersucker, madras, or cotton eyelet.

Bright colors are fantastic for summer wedding guests. Forget drab or dark – this is your chance to wear something festive and vibrant. Sleeveless dresses are going to be the most comfy on a sweltering day. Don’t worry about your arms; worry about not feeling like a hot sweaty mess. If you are the type who doesn’t like to show her upper arms, add a little lightweight cotton shrug over your sleeveless dress. Then you have the option of taking it off or keeping it on depending on how hot the day turns out to be. By the end of the reception when you are living it up on the dance floor, you will be glad to be able to chuck off your little sweater!

Think carefully about the shoes you wear to an outdoor wedding this summer. High heels are a definite no-no when you need to walk across grass or sand. Wedge sandals are perfect, because they give you height but won’t sink into the grass. I love the summery fabric of the seersucker wedges above. Or if you prefer something flat, pick out a fabulous pair of dressy flat sandals. We’re not talking Tevas or plastic flip flops – choose a super pretty sandal like one with metallic straps or a silver starfish ornament.

Once you have the dress and shoes picked out, it is time to choose the rest of your accessories. A silver pendant in a summery theme is just enough for summer wedding jewelry. The starfish pendant above would look great with a cotton dress for an outdoor wedding. You will also need a cute little clutch or handbag. Leave your bulky everyday purse at home and pick out something small and cute. The right bag will be just big enough to hold some makeup for touch ups, your keys, and a couple of dollars. With all of your accessories lined up, you will be ready to go to every wedding this summer in style.
