If you fancy yourself more of a Pippa than a Kate, your fantasy wedding dress is probably sleek and sophisticated. While gowns with an old-fashioned flair are quite popular these days, there are still plenty of slender modern gowns from which to choose. Take a peek at this sophisticated sheaths and see if one of them could be your dream wedding dress…

This silk crepe halter gown by Amsale is truly a show-stopper. It would be perfect for the modern city bride…as long as she also has a perfect figure. This is the kind of dress that doesn’t hide anything, so be sure that you check out how it looks from every angle before ordering! I love how the bride has her hair pulled up in a soft asymmetrical bun to show off the daring open back and pretty satin ribbon. A pair of crystal and pearl earrings would be the ideal accessory to complement the beading around the neckline. Add a long sheer veil if you wish to make this dramatic gown a tad bit more demure for the wedding ceremony.

This gorgeous sheath from Monique Lhuillier has plenty of sex appeal, but also a somewhat more forgiving form, thanks to the ruching and draping. The front slit is very on trend, while the halter neckline definitely brings to mind the alluring icon after which the gown was named. I love how the draped charmeuse flutters behind as you walk, and the crystal brooch at the waist gives the gown enough oomph for a sophisticated evening wedding. It would also be a stunning choice for a beach wedding if you wanted to go more sexy than sweet. All it needs is a fabulous pair of cz drop earrings and a silver metallic clutch to complete the look perfectly.

Carolina Herrera always knows how to make brides look fabulous, and this one shoulder sheath dress is no exception. This is a terrific option for a bride who likes the slim silhouette of a sheath, but prefers a more structured gown. Without question, the standout feature of this modern one shoulder gown is the dramatic pouf on the shoulder. It gives the gown that element of surprise that will make people stand up and take notice as you walk down the aisle, while the rest of the dress is quite clean and simple. This sheath would work beautifully for a church wedding.

This simple yet elegant spaghetti strap sheath by Theia has a lovely contrast between the draped chiffon cowl bodice and the slinky charmeuse skirt. This is an excellent neckline for a small busted bride who wants to add the illusion of a bit more on the top. I can imagine this sweet sheath in any number of settings. Wear it with a chapel length veil to walk down the aisle of a church. Or tuck a flower behind your ear to wear it for a beach wedding. It could also work for a wedding in a loft, a garden, or pretty much anywhere, depending on the wedding accessories you choose. The one requirement to pull off a dress like this is a flat tummy (and maybe a pair of Spanx!).

- Spectactular sequin and Swarovski crystal sheath by Anne Bowen. Credit: John Aquino via Brides
Possibly saving the best for last, we come to this gorgeous wedding dress by Anne Bowen. The champagne chiffon gown is covered in sequins and Swarovski crystals for a dazzling effect that moves like liquid. The fluttery chiffon sleeves and modest neckline balance out the dazzling sparkle of the dress. Look at the artful way in which the crystals fade out to create an illusion neckline – it is breathtaking! If you want to look as though you stepped right off the red carpet on your wedding day, this is your wedding dress.
