Using Gray in Your Wedding

When you are thinking about a color palette for your wedding, gray is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. And yet, brides across the country are finding beautiful and unexpected ways to incorporate the color gray into their weddings. For tips and advice, keep reading…

There are a variety of ways to use gray in your color scheme. First of all, forget the notion that gray has to mean boring or drab. It is a color that can be employed in a myriad of different wedding styles, none of which are boring or bland. On its own, gray might not have enough sizzle and pop, but when used with other colors, it can add the perfect dash of cool and sophistication to your wedding design.

To use gray in a modern wedding, think about layering it into the fabrics, such as bridesmaid dresses and tablecloths. A dove gray or pewter color makes a very chic and minimalist choice for your attendants. Soften the austerity of gray by choosing a dress in a soft fabric like chiffon or organza.

If you want to add a splash of color by the bridesmaids’ faces, a great way to do this is by giving them bridesmaid jewelry in a color like red or lime green. Alternatively, you could keep the color palette very restrained, and have each bridesmaid wear jewelry in clear crystals. This could be very elegant for an evening wedding.

Gray is not only for minimalists and modernists. It can be a very soft and romantic addition to colors like grass green and sunny yellow. An easy way to combine gray with a color like yellow is by choosing fabrics that use both colors in a print. For instance, when designing your reception tablescapes, you could choose a tablecloth in your solid bright color. Then layer in a napkin in a gray and green (or yellow) pattern, and use china with a sophisticated and simple gray or pewter border. This is a great way to keep a bright color from becoming too overwhelming or childish.

Gray can be used to great effect in all different types of weddings, which is why its popularity has been on the rise. Once you stop to think about all the ways you can use gray to add elegance to your own wedding, you will see that it can be an excellent choice.
